Ever since the PC/Steam version of Skyrim was patched to version 1.3—released just a few days ago—players have experienced a rash of problems with textures. Specifically, the textures have a tendency not to load, or when they do, they come out as flat, pink, and featureless. (There's a joke in that sentence, but it speaks for itself.)
In addition to the disappearing, missing, or otherwise glitchy textures, the game is now prone to crashing a lot faster than normal. With no errors to show, and a simple crash to desktop, it's difficult to figure out what's causing these issues to crop up. Needless to say, the patch has something to do with it.
Likewise, the 4GB Large Address Aware patch is no longer working since the update. This could account for the crashes, which are occurring much more often as players—who've now spent more than two weeks with Skyrim—have save games that contain much more information than ever before. This problem—among many others—is likely to go away when Bethesda releases version 1.4 next week, but the other issues still remain.
For those of us lost in the land of Skyrim, these fixes can't come soon enough. Despite the game's excellence, Bethesda has plenty to answer for releasing a game as buggy as this.
