With each new generation of the Pokemon series, The Pokemon Company tries to develop a new “gimmick” to flesh out the game world more and give something “fresh” for players to enjoy. We’ve seen double battles, day/night cycles, regional variants, mega evolution, etc. With the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the gimmick will come in the form of Terastalization. In the Paldea Region, Pokemon can transform into crystalized versions of themselves, getting new powers and abilities as a result. The ones you get will potentially be invaluable in battle. Plus, there are multiple ways to get them.
Some Pokemon will have the ability naturally, and others you’ll need to capture via Tera Raid battles. These are continuations of the co-op battles from Gen 8, where you’ll team up with three other players to fight and catch a Pokemon. The Tera Raids will always feature a Terastal Pokemon, so you’ll want to participate in as many of these as possible. But today, we got some new information that’ll help guide you on your path to these battles and get the best Pokemon possible from them.
According to the Nintendo of America Twitter handle, unique black raid crystals are scattered throughout the Paldea Region. If you go to one, you’ll be able to participate in a higher-level Tera Raid. That means you might have a chance to get a very special and powerful Pokemon through the event.
But that’s not all. The Serebii team revealed that the first Tera Raid event would happen in the first days of December, featuring the fan-favorite Pokemon Charizard.
If you’re confused about what the words “Dragon Tera Type” means, it’s about the Terastal process itself. When Pokemon go into their crystal forms, they don’t always maintain their natural types. So, in this case, Charizard is a Fire/Flying-type Pokemon, but in this event, he’ll be able to transform into a Dragon-type Pokemon. That makes it more challenging to beat due to the differences in weaknesses it would then possess. Finding Pokemon with different Terastal types can provide a significant advantage in battles. It’ll put foes on their toes and make them swap out Pokemon that they would usually put into fights.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Co-Op features are greatly enhanced compared to previous games. Not just in Tera Raids but in how you communicate, travel and trade. So when the titles arrive on November 18th, you’ll want to play it with friends and others online.
