The Resident Evil franchise has been going through quite a renaissance over the last few years. It started with the 7th mainline title going back to the series’ roots to invoke horror in players. Then, the remakes for the 2nd and 3rd mainline titles got people to enjoy the history of the series in a new light. Now, the next wave of its renaissance is coming through Resident Evil 4 Remake. The original version of the 4th mainline title might not be as old as some of the rest, but the team at Capcom felt it was time for an upgrade. But would that include an upgrade to the map?
These questions were asked when the Collector’s Edition of Resident Evil 4 Remake was put online, and the world map for the title was found within it. Once found in high-quality, fans went to work and plotted out all the critical spots in the game that you go to as Leon S. Kennedy or Ada Wong. The world map appears pretty darn close to the original, to the fan’s delight. The only thing missing on the map is the island where the game’s final stages occur. But that could be intentional, so don’t read too much into it.
The team from Capcom has already gone into detail about what to expect from the upcoming title in terms of changes. From the trailers, we know that certain events in the beginning will be changed. Such as certain people Leon meets early on. Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said that the team is looking to expand the story through the characters and give depth to ones that didn’t have it before. Luis and Ashley, for example, will have more prominent roles in the game. That alone means the story will be more expansive and lead to multiple new scenes.

He also noted that certain gameplay elements would be altered and improved thanks to the new technical abilities the team is granted in modern consoles and PC. For example, Leon’s knife will be more formidable than ever, but it also can be broken.
The other significant change is the graphics. The original title had a good look when it came out, but things have gotten much better, graphically speaking. So you’ll see more lifelike versions of Leon, Ada, Luis, Ashley, and the game’s villains. Those graphics will also add to the atmosphere and make the game as a whole feel creepier.
If you’re curious about the Collector’s Edition and what it has inside besides the world map, we’ll give you the full breakdown. The edition includes a Steelbook, Extra DLC Pack Product Code, Digital Soundtrack, a Leon S. Kennedy Figure, Artbook, and Collector’s Box.
Resident Evil 4 Remake will arrive on March 23rd.
