Last week, we reported that this month's Official PlayStation Magazine UK cover story heralded a huge announcement: Metal Gear Solid 5. Now that OPM UK has published excerpts from their interview with series creator Hideo Kojima, it's clear that the rumors of MGS5's existence were more than a little overblown.
In reality, Kojima and his studio haven't even begun work on the game yet, though it'll likely happen somewhere down the road. “I think we’ll probably have to make it at some point," Kojima observed "but what that will be, we have no idea.”
And if the game does get made, Kojima might not be involved in the way he has in the past. “As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won’t be as much as it was with MGS1 – maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on – that level I can’t do again.” Of course, there's a lot of leeway between designing every level himself and doing nothing, so there's still a solid chance that he'll wind up in the director's chair once more.
Nevertheless, it's comforting to know that Kojima still intends to continue the main series at some point, even if that date could yet be many years into the future.
