Destiny player SerfaBoy has spent 98 hours with the game, without ever leaving the first mission in order to reach level 40.
The above video shows his slow grind towards the game’s top level.
How is this possible, you might ask. Under normal circumstances, players reach the end of the mission and jump into their first ship. SerfaBoy, however, never gets off the ground. The game in designed in such a way that an area can be repopulated with enemies under certain conditions. In the case of the first mission, this will happen so long as Rahn, the mini-boss at the end, never dies.
In a Reddit post, SerfaBoy offers a more thorough explanation of how he managed to pull it all off and it’s all very impressive. Originally, he was concerned about the XP enemies provided eventually dwindling down to nothing as he rose in level but, thankfully, that proved not to be the case.
Destiny players are certainly desperate for new content but this is taking things a step too far. That being said, fans of the game are notorious for grinding so maybe this was inevitable.
Earlier this week, publisher Activision provided details of Destiny’s upcoming spring update, which will introduce new gear to find and equip as well as increase the maximum light level players can achieve. The company also confirmed reports from last month that Destiny 2 will not be released until 2017, confirming initial reports from Kotaku in January.
A new major expansion will be released this year, Activision confirmed. Details on what to expect were not divulged but given Bungie’s history it will likely launch in September and we expect to hear more details at E3 if not before.
Bungie is currently hosting a Valentine’s Day-themed event in Destiny PvP called Crimson Days.
