Following up on our earlier report on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Activision and Treyarch have announced the introduction of five new weapons into the game’s competitive multiplayer mode today.
The developers unveiled that players will be getting one new primary weapon and four secondaries, available only through the supply drop system. As previously noted, the only way to unlock supply drops is through CryptoKeys acquired through regular play, or by paying for it with real money. You’ll need to be lucky to unlock them, either way.
Keep in mind that owning the DLC Season Pass will not afford you these items for free. You’ll have to buy them off the Black Market.
Here’s what’s in store:
- Fury’s Song
- MX Garand (Formerly M2 Raider)
- Marshal 16
- NX Phantom
- Iron Jim
Spending real money will earn you COD Points, which you can use in place of CryptoKeys.
Activision notes that they have added over 100 new items to the Black Market in addition to the new weapons. These come in the form of gear sets, weapon skins, “and more.” The new Black Market items are available now across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
It’s hard to say whether the release will start a trend of releasing new weapons through the Black Market, which previously only offered cosmetic options. Many fans are voicing their concerns across the Call of Duty community that it may introduce pay-to-win as a problem and unbalance the game’s competitive nature. We’re hoping this isn’t the case.
