It's no surprise that the Battlefield series will get another iteration, given its recent success. Having pushed over 10 million units, and selling five million copies in the first week alone, Battlefield 3 is one of EA's best selling games of all time.
According to a Twitter post from someone who attended a college campus talk given by EA president Frank Gibeau, the company is already thinking about developing a sequel. Not a mere spinoff or another Bad Company game, Frank Gibeau namedropped Battlefield 4 by name when he said, "There is going to be a Battlefield 4."
The question now is when the game will be released. A few months ago, DICE's Patrick Bach said that the Battlefield series would not receive yearly iterations, as doing so would dillute the series' potency.
It stands to reason, therefore, that Battlefield 4 can only be released in 2013 or at a later date, with the studio focusing all of its efforts on Battlefield 3.
