The release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is just around the corner, so what is next for the classic Nintendo series? Well, apparently their focus is now on the Nintendo 3DS platform. Portuguese gaming site, MyGames, had a chance to talk to Producer Eiji Aonuma today and asked where the popular franchise was heading after the release of Skyward Sword. NintendoEverything.com was able to get a decent translation of the interview:
“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous consoles.”
Aonuma also touched on the rumors about a Majora’s Mask remake for the 3DS–one of the most popular titles in the series. Although they have not yet made any solid plans for the remake, they have been talking about the idea:
“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword reaches shelves for the Nintendo Wii on November 20th.
