If you play Pokemon X/Y or Pokémon Omega/Alpha Ruby/Sapphire and want a free level 100 Mew, GameStop’s got you covered. The store is currently offering a free code card for the legendary Pokémon. Supplies are apparently limited.
The promotion is being offered as part of the “20 years of Pokémon Celebration.” If you prefer to level up your Pokémon manually, there’s also a couple a digitally remastered Pokemon: The first Movie available on iTunes, as well as an interactive companion iBook called A Pokemon Super Story! Pokemon: The First Movie. There’s also a trailer for all three of these that you can watch here.
20 years after Pokémon Red/Blue launched, the pocket-monster series is still going strong. The latest entries in the series, Pokémon X/Y and Pokemon Omega/Alpha Ruby/Sapphire are part of the reason the Nintendo 3DS is still successful in the era of smartphone gaming. As we learned from Nintendo’s most recent financial report, the games are moving lots of units. X/Y have sold almost 15 million units, while Omega Sapphire/Ruby have sold almost 12 million units, combining for almost 27 million games sold total. The 3DS has sold 58 million units worldwide, with 264 million software units sold as well.
We also learned in that financial report that the Wii U has reached 12 million units sold, which puts Nintendo’s position in the console market on display, considering that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have both sold about 36 million and 19 million units respectively. Considering that both consoles were released a year after the Wii U, those numbers don’t bode well in the long run for Nintendo. That may be why there have been rumors circulating that the company’s next hardware, the NX, could be a hybrid home/mobile console.
