Feel like you're facing an indestructible death machine every time you encounter a tank in Battlefield 3? Cower no more, as Youtuber PianomanGaming has you covered with a comprehensive guide on how to take them out. Here are his tips and tricks for making sure you give even the best tank drivers something to worry about.
- Tanks have armor that protects their front and affects damage done by a majority of the anti-tank weaponry. If you can, aim for the rear of the tank. If the weapon is question is affected by armor, you'll do about 3 times as much damage if you hit the rear, and about 1.5 times as much damage if you hit the side. If you can, avoid hitting the front of the tank with your shots at all costs.
- Hand grenades will not damage a tank, no matter where you throw them. Save your grenades for the infantry.
- Damage done to a tank by another tank is comparable to damage done by an RPG, around 22 from the front and 61 from the rear. Plan your attacks accordingly.
- Mounted missile launchers do considerably more damage to tanks than either RPGs or tank fire, a whopping 83 with a direct hit to the rear.
- Mounted guns on helicopters will do damage to tanks, whether it's the minigun on a transport helicopter or the main guns on an attack chopper. The tank's armor modifier applies to their bullets, so aim for the back.
- Mobile anti-air guns will damage the tank, and suffer the standard armor penalties.
- Rockets from attack helicopters and jets do about the same amount of damage to tanks, around 43 if the entire barrage hits. These rockets ingore the tank's armor modifier, so you'll do the same damage regardless of where you hit.
- The jet's gatling gun is affected by armor, and can do quite a bit of damage per second if you hit the rear of the tank.
- The Javelin, C4, and anti-tank mines are also unaffected by armor, doing the same damage to the front, side, and rear.
- A direct hit with the mortar will do about 22 damage to the tank, just under a quarter of its health. The mortar is also capable of dealing splash damage, so even a near miss will chip away at the tank's health.
- The engineer's repair torch does about 4.5 damage per second from the front, and about 12.5 damage per second from the rear. If you can get behind a tank on foot, you'll be able to take it out in an astonishingly short 8 seconds. Just be careful not to wind up as roadkill.
Armed with this new knowledge, you'll be well on your way to becoming a tank-killing machine. Thanks again to PianomanGaming for putting together this excellent list of pointers.
