The Last of Us Part 1 has only just been released and already there are certain internet dwellers aiming to make a small fortune by reselling it. In particular, the game’s Firefly Edition, which is the most expensive edition of the title in the first place, has been listed on eBay for whopping sums of money.
The listings come after the Firefly Edition was restocked in the US at midnight ET on Friday, after its original stock at PlayStation Direct sold out in less than an hour when pre-orders first went live back in June. However, this latest restock has also been decimated in a matter of hours, the results of which are now apparent over on eBay.
It looks like a number of copies have been bought up by scalpers, who are now listing the Firefly Edition of The Last of Us Part 1 for triple-digit sums. Amongst the most expensive of these listings are a couple, which at the time of writing will cost north of $2,000. That’s before adding in any shipping costs, too. It’s a decidedly shady practice and one that’s worth buyers being very wary of.
While players can order the Firefly Edition of the game directly and exclusively in the US from PlayStation Direct for $99.99, they’ll have to wait for another restock, a large part of which is down to these scalpers swooping up the goods in the first place, with the intention of selling them on at a profit. It shouldn’t be too long to wait for another restocking though, so hopefully, consumers will be able to get a copy for themselves soon at the recommended retail price.
The special edition of the rebuilt for PS5 version of the beloved game contains a number of additional items. These include a limited edition Steelbook case for the game and a set of The Last of Us: American Dreams comics #1 – #4 which have brand new cover art. Also included as part of the Firefly Edition are a variety of in-game items and cosmetics. Amongst these are a Speedrun Mode for the game, increased healing and crafting speed skills, an explosive arrows gameplay modifier, a 9mm reload speed increase upgrade, and a rifle clip capacity increase upgrade. There’s also a ‘Dither Punk’ filter for the game and a number of weapon skins for the Black Gold 9mm Pistol, Silver Filigree 9mm Pistol, Rubber Tactical Shotgun, Sculpted Oak Shotgun, Arctic White Bow, and Carbon Black Bow.
The Last of Us Part 1 has been eagerly anticipated and is getting a number of rave reviews already. Hopefully, the Firefly Edition, which is currently only available in the States, will be made available to those in other global regions soon. Although it’d certainly help if the scalpers would just have a day off once in a while.
The Last of Us Part 1 is available now on PS5. A version of the game for PC is also currently in development, although we’re still waiting for news of a release date for that.
