Dark Souls is a non-forgiving game that plunges the player into difficult battles using various weapons and strategies to survive the dark and dreary fantasy world. Strategies to win battles often require the player to die and learn from it and the online component allows players to share the experience without need for direct communication.
Dark Souls was released on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 in all regions except Japan where it was only available on the PlayStation 3 platform. Its 2009 spiritual prequel, Demon Souls, also did very well and vastly exceeded expectations in North American sales.
