Bandai Namco announced today Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, a “massively multiplayer third person shooter (MMOTPS)” developed by Behaviour Interactive, is coming to the Americas.
The game will feature a persistent world “where players must choose from one of four factions and work together to take down opposing forces.” Behaviour and Bandai Namco are partnering with Games Workshop, the developer and publisher of the tabletop War Hammer and Warhammer 40,000. Previous videogame adaptations of the tabletop game include the 2011 third-person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, along with the more recent Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, an FPS that released last year for PC.
“Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade appeals to a wide variety of players, bringing a massive playerbase along with third person shooter elements,” said Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America, Inc. “In Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, players will join their favorite factions and embark upon fierce large-scale battles set within the rich Warhammer 40,000 universe.”
The publisher’s moniker of MMOTPS suggests the game may follow a similar structure and design like Destiny, Activision’s popular blend of first/third person shooting within an MMORPG-like world.
Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is expected to launch later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in the Americas.
