Just like that, Japan has a new amiibo based game. Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge has been announced for this month, with a special launch promotion.
The promotion works out if you buy an amiibo in stores. You will be given a pamphlet with the download code for the game. Nintendo worked with Japanese retailers for this, and they’ll keep selling them until they run out of codes. No worries if you can’t get one at the moment for whatever reason. It will be released for free later, although of course buying an amiibo gives you that head start.
Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge is essentially Mario vs Donkey Kong, but with the license expanded for amiibo. You still guide a wind up toy version of your character through a trap filled level, occasionally building bridges and placing pipes on the level via the touchscreen.
There are now two kinds of levels; the kinds all characters can play through, and the kinds made only for specific amiibo. Each character also has special abilities.
These amiibo are compatible:
· Yoshi (Super Mario series, Super Smash Bros. series, Mega Yarn Yoshi, Green Yarn Yoshi, Blue Yarn Yoshi, Pink Yarn Yoshi)
· Toad (Super Mario series)
· Mario (Super Mario series, Super Smash Bros. series, 30th Anniversary series Classic Colours, 30th Anniversary Modern Colours, Super Mario series Gold, Dr. Mario)
· Luigi (Super Mario series, Super Smash Bros. series)
· Peach (Super Mario series, Super Smash Bros. series)
· Diddy Kong (Super Smash Bros. series)
· Donkey Kong (Super Smash Bros. series)
· Bowser (Super Mario series, Super Smash Bros. series)
· Bowser Jr. (Super Smash Bros. series)
· Rosalina (Super Smash Bros. series)
all other amiibo (unlock a special character: Mini Spec) If your amiibo isn’t on the abovementioned list, he or she will still unlock a special character: Mini Spec.
Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge is available on both Wii U and 3DS, with exactly the same levels. Are you looking forward to its Western release? Share your thoughts with us in the comments. You can also check out the launch (Japanese) trailer above.
