Crackdown 3 To Launch In Multiplayer This Summer, Single Player To Follow

January 4, 2016 by Holly Green

Cloudgine likely releasing multiplayer first due to the mode’s use of the Microsoft Azure cloud system.

Today, Microsoft has announced the release date of Crackdown 3! …Kind of. In an Xbox Wire post celebrating the company's successes in 2015, a brief list summarizing the games coming out in 2016 reveals that the open world crime-fighting title may be launching separately in two parts, with multiplayer debuting first. It's a surprising development, given that multiplayer most often follows a single player launch, but as pointed out by Gamesradar's Joe Skrebels, the decision may be due to the multiplayer mode's use of the Microsoft Azure cloud servers to offer a fully destructible open world city, which has shifted the focus of the developer's resources towards multiplayer over single player.

Microsoft and Cloudgine have not yet responded to requests for clarification for a possible release date for the single player mode, but Crackdown 3 multiplayer is coming to Xbox One sometime in the summer of 2016.
