Steam and Xbox Live had their own troubles on Christmas, and the PlayStation Network was no exception. Sony’s AskPlayStation Twitter account said yesterday that they were “aware that new PSN account validation and Password reset emails are delayed. Thanks for your patience as we resolve this issue.”

While Xbox Live’s issues were minor, Sony’s were more up front. Creating an account is one of the first steps for setting up a PlayStation 4. Christmas day, when undoubtedly many were unboxing PS4’s given as gifts, is not the best time for delays with account creation.
As of 8 p.m. EST on Christmas night, the service was still having issues. The Ask PlayStation Twitter account tweeted again: “We're still looking into the issue with new PSN account validation and password reset emails being delayed. Thanks again for your patience.”
