According to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, the Xbox One will not be Microsoft’s last console. Speaking in an interview with the Verge, Spencer said he does not see a day when Xbox exists as a storefront or digital-only platform.
"I fully expect that you'll see another console from us. Our best customers are Xbox console customers, and I want to keep those people engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future. I'm 100 percent committed to that,” Spencer said. He continued: "I don't want to dilute what the Xbox console customer feels. I want to expand what we're able to do for more customers."
The entire interview, dissecting the future of gaming at Microsoft as a whole, is worth a read. Xbox executive Shannon Loftis says that Microsoft wants to make gaming “more inclusive across the board,” and that the company is discussing “as many ways to make all of our experiences relevant across all of our platforms as we possibly can.”
One piece of futuristic tech that Microsoft has shown off in the past is the HoloLens, a virtual reality headset. Executives at Microsoft believe the technology has a solid and practical videogame potential.
