Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VI will be released on Steam on December 16th.
Sadly, it might not be the version we'd most like to see, rather than using the classic visuals of the original SNES game or the Game Boy Advance iteration, the mobile edition is being used as a template. 16-bit RPGs are back in vogue at the moment, so the aesthetic change may not be the best move, still, all of the core gameplay elements are still there.
A price hasn't been announced yet, but you can likely expect to pay around $16.
It's not just sprites, the fonts are also much more generic than in the older versions. The SNES version can be played on both Wii and Wii U via the Virtual Console if you'd like to replay the classic game.
