Fans of Sony’s The Last of Us franchise were pleasantly surprised to see The Last of Us Part 1 announced at this year’s Summer Games Fest. Well, mostly surprised. The original game won more awards than can reasonably be counted. The second game was similarly successful, and it has all led to a new HBO TV show based on the games. So it’s undoubtedly one of Sony’s most important franchises. However, what is definitely surprising to many people is that this remake exists instead of, say, The Last of Us 3 or something else new in the universe. After all, The Last of Us was already remastered for the PlayStation 4 after originally being released on the PlayStation 3. So the fact that the game is now coming to the PlayStation 5 (and PC for the first time) is bound to confuse some people. So naturally, many people have questions. Questions like, will The Last of Us Part 1 be on PlayStation Plus?
Will The Last of Us Part 1 be on PlayStation Plus?
Nothing has been announced just yet. However, Sony has repeated the line that it will not be adding its games to the new PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers on launch day. The company doesn’t see the value in following Microsoft’s approach to Xbox Game Pass. That’s not to say the game won’t be made available on Sony’s new subscription service at some point though.
The newly launched service has a lot of Sony’s biggest games. Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, and Returnal are some of the most recent big Sony games to launch with the service. However, with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium being brand new subscriptions, there’s no precedent to suggest how long Sony will wait to add its big games to the catalog.
We’ll have to see what other games Sony puts on the new PS Plus and when in order to get an idea of whether or not The Last of Us Part 1 will make the cut.
