Nintendo dominated our Twitter timelines today with a long series of surprising announcements. Among the tweets is news of a brand new Pokémon game: Pokémon Picross. According to Nintendo, the game will be free-to-start (meaning that it probably requires in-game purchases at some point) and will launch for the 3DS in early December. There were no other details about pricing or a specific release date.
Picross is a picture logic puzzle that requires players to use numbers to reveal hidden pictures. Theoretically, Pokémon Picross probably takes the concept of Picross and allows players to uncover pictures of their favorite Pokémon characters.
Nintendo seems to be interested in doing more crossover games. In addition to Pokémon Picross, the publisher also plans to release the Pokkén Tournament fighting game, which combines Pokémon characters with the fighting elements of the arcade game Tekken. Pokkén is currently only available for arcade machines but will become available for the Wii U in Japan on March 18. There are plans to release it in North America and Europe shortly thereafter.
Nintendo also announced plans today to bring Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow to 3DS in February on the games’ twentieth anniversary. Brace yourself for a lot of Pokémon news in the coming months.
