The upcoming online game from Square Enix, Dragon Quest X is getting a revamp—with changes from the previous DQ games—in terms of its profession system. In the game, the player will be able to choose from one of five races, and build his or her character from six "basic occupations".
In addition to the six core jobs, players will be able to choose a specialized profession. The game uses a skill point system very similar to Dragon Quest IX. Players will be able to raise their character's attributes and feats according to their own liking.
If my translation is correct, players will be able to learn new skills at various locations, such as the Dharma Temple, which offers players the ability to learn priest and mage spells. Once specialized, players will be unable to switch to other professions. Additionally, chosen professions will allow players to equip special equipment limited to that class, which can be worn by every race.
The six classes are:
Warrior
Warriors are the tanks of Dragon Quest X. With their body strength and "hardness of overwhelming force" (I'm far too inebriated to translate this), Warriors can equip with both hands a huge ax. Warriors learn few spells and are not very agile.
Witch
The Witch is essentially a mage, or wizard. He or she can cast a variety of elemental spells, including fire and frost. Physically weak, the Witch is a glass cannon.
Priest
The priest is adept at healing magic, and is capable of resuscitating fallen comrades in battle. The priest's role is to provide support for the other classes. The priest is a recommended addition for any party. They can specialize into Monks.
Dancer
The Dancer is a class who turns his or her body into a living weapon. Unable to wield heavy equipment, the Dancer makes up for it with his or her agility and the ability to kill an enemy in a single blow.
Thief
The Thief has the advantage of being highly dextrous. A master of all trades, he or she can also discover treasure, and is able to cast a few spells.
Tinker
The Tinker would rather spend time entertaining the masses and building a career instead of adventuring. The Tinker is capable of spellcasting and is a surprisingly reliable teammate.
