Three New Modes Revealed for Star Wars Battlefront

October 12, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Hero Hunt, Cargo, and Droid Run.

Electronic Arts announced three new game modes for Star Wars Battlefront today: Hero Hunt, Cargo, and Droid Run.

The first of the three game modes, Hero Hunt, was briefly detailed alongside the announcement of a $50 season pass for the game. In Hero Hunt, seven players will take on one hero/villain character (Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker were used as examples). If one of those seven characters manages to kill the hero/villain character, they will take its place as the hero until they are killed, as well. Whichever players spends the most time as the hero/villain character will be crowned the winner.

“People tend to react in two different ways when [they realize they are the hero/villain character],” said lead level designer Dennis Brännvall in a blog post about Hero Hunt. “Some muscle up and shout ‘come at me!’ while others tend to, well, panic slightly when they realize they've got seven people on their tail. But after a few kills they get confident as well.”

The second new mode is called Cargo and it is billed as EA DICE’s take on capture the flag, a popular competitive multiplayer game mode for any FPS. More specifically, in Cargo two teams will spawn at their respective bases where their cargo is located. The goal is to make it to the enemy’s base, steal their cargo, and bring it back to home base. One key component, however, is that your own cargo need not be in your base for you to capture the enemy’s cargo.

Additionally, scoring in Cargo works by having each team spawn with a score of five points. When a team manages to capture the enemy’s cargo, they will earn one point while the other team loses a point. Whichever team has the most points after 15 minutes wins the round.

The last of the three new modes is called Droid Run. It is a six-versus-six game type where the objective is to capture and contain three droids on the map before the 10-minute time limit expires. The trick is that the droids will be constantly on the move, and trying to capture all three will be the key to victory. Heroes, villains, and vehicles will not be present in Droid Run.

Star Wars Battlefront will be available on Nov. 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There is a beta currently ongoing that is scheduled to end Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015.
