Are you looking for new sequels to Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, or Dragon’s Dogma? You shouldn’t count on it, if this new interview is any indication.
Capcom producers Masachika Kawata and Hiroyuki Kobayashi made it clear that we would not be hearing much about these games at the moment. Kobayashi expressly stated that there are no plans for sequels to Devil May Cry or Dragon’s Dogma.
Kawata spoke at length more about Resident Evil, and specifically asked that fans ‘stay tuned’ for news on Resident Evil 7. Here and now, fans can look forward to remakes of older games like Resident Evil 2 and spinoff games, like Resident Evil Revelations and the upcoming shooter Umbrella Corps.
Capcom sees HD remakes of games like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry as a growth area, but Kawata is defensive towards accusations that the Resident Evil franchise is losing its horror touch. Barring discussing the possibly upcoming Resident Evil 7, he says Capcom is likely to respond to this by making more remakes.
Certainly, some of these remakes were a good idea as some of these games were becoming increasingly harder to find, but how do you feel about Capcom’s current strategies? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
