Cyberpunk 2077 will be “far, far bigger” than The Witcher 3, according to CD Projekt Red visual effects artist Jose Teixeira.
Speaking to MCV, Teixeira said, “Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before. Far, far bigger.”
“We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter,” he said.
Teixeira’s statement includes the obvious comparison to CD Projekt Red’s other massive, open-world game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was released earlier this year.
"The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” he said. “We really didn't know what was going to happen.
“If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.
"I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go 'I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better.’”
Cyberpunk 2077 does not have a release date, despite being announced more than three years ago. Earlier this year, however, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski said that 2015 and 2016 are “the years of The Witcher,” which might point to a 2017 release date for Cyberpunk 2077, but if the game is to be as big as Teixeira’s statement makes it out to be, then only time will tell when CD Projekt Red will be finished.
