Bethesda’s Pete Hines has revealed the developer drew a line on the sand for one modern gaming fixture not making it on Fallout 4.
No, there will be no exclusive DLC deals for Fallout 4 on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. While many of the biggest releases on the console have had exclusives for one console or the other, Bethesda did not ink such a deal in this case.
Exclusive DLC deals do come down to signing deals between the developers and the console companies, and even if we don’t know how much money passes hands, they certainly influence sales of the games on said consoles.
Of course, each game is a different situation, so if EA likes to pen deals for FIFA and Battlefield to get DLC out on Xbox One first, and games like Batman Arkham Knight and Watch Dogs release PlayStation 4 exclusive content, there is a third category of multiplatform games. These games are possibly too big to have console exclusive DLC, even if they sell more on one platform. For these companies, it is more important not to make any of their fans unhappy, so it’s better to act as platform neutral as possible.
This was the case with Grand Theft Auto 5, and with Dark Souls, and clearly it will be the case with Fallout 4.
