Capcom made some big announcement for Ace Attorney fans in Tokyo Game Show today. Not only did they share more information on Ace Attorney 6, they revealed that there will be an Ace Attorney anime.
The anime will start airing in April 2016, and it will allow nongamer anime fans to acquaint themselves with the stories from the first three games. Capcom has yet to reveal the production studio, the series, official name, and how many episodes will be produced. This does come off the heels of the 2012 Ace Attorney live action film directed by Takashi Miike. Clearly, Capcom has finally recognized there’s an audience for the series’ quirky stories and entertaining characters beyond video games.
For gamers, the latest Ace Attorney 6 trailer finally reveals its fun new premise. Everyone’s favorite well dressed attorney Phoenix Wright is passing by the Kingdom of Kurain, which is strongly hinted to have connections to Maya Fey’s hometown, Kurain Village (Medium Valley in English).
If Kurain Village is known for the family of spirit mediums known as the Fey Clan, the Kingdom of Kurain is a place where attorneys are replaced by mediums. Phoenix’s erstwhile sparring partner is the Mystic Princess, Leifa Padma Kurai. Kurai uses divination to see a victim’s last living moments, making it seem unnecessary for there to be defense attorneys. At least, that was the case until Phoenix came along.
Ace Attorney 6 will release in Japan in 2016 for Nintendo 3DS. A Western release has been confirmed but Capcom has yet to share release dates. Check out a fan translated version of the trailer above.
