Depending on whom you believe, the DCEU might be either getting course-corrected soon (as stated by those who want the Upfronts tomorrow to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse), or it’s going to continue to be what it is now…a lot of promises with only some payoffs. For example, there have been a LOT of movies that were promised for the DCEU that never came to life, including that of a Nightwing movie.
This one was promised years ago and even had its own director who outlined who he needed to find in order to play Dick Grayson. The movie is allegedly still coming, but in the meantime, the character is being played in the Titans TV series by Brenton Thwaites. When asked about what he’d like to see in a Nightwing movie, he said the following:
“I think what would be interesting to me is a younger or older Dick Grayson,” he said. “Someone who’s like Bruce Wayne’s age, you know… or 45 or 50. So like an actor 15 years my senior to kind of portray the character and what it’s been like fighting crime for so long. Or a younger teenager and you go through the storyline of losing his parents, and what that means for him, and training with Bruce, and kind of psychological trauma that he faces.”
That last line is honestly the basis of what Thwaites take on the character is. But…not all appreciate how Dick Grayson has been portrayed in Titans as a whole. Including how he’s “super serious” and “not trusting” of others, and yet in the comics and other portrayals, he’s the light-hearted team-builder of the Bat-Family.
Given that Batgirl is getting her own movie released within the next year more than likely, many will likely hope she gets to meet Dick Grayson sooner rather than later.
