id Software plans to include easter eggs in Rage with references to all its previous games. The game's artistic director Tim Willits says that the game will be a celebration of Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake, with small in-engine levels being emulated as secrets. In other words, it'll be more than just a nod to those games.
Willits showed off one of the game's easter eggs for Wolfenstein 3D at the Eurogamer Expo, which had a blue colored brick in a deserted corner of a level. When clicked, it would reveal a secret room containing a collectable goblet right out of Wolfenstein 3D. Willits says that such references are scattered throughout the rest of the game for fans to stumble upon.
Here's hoping that they'll even throw in a Commander Keen reference or two.
Rage is set for release on October 4 on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, culminating in 20 years of FPS development for id Software.
