Given the immense popularity of Genshin Impact, it’s been only a matter of time until developer miHoYo decided to branch out. Having made a global name for themselves, the Chinese team is getting ready to reveal something exciting in only a few days’ time. The upcoming title Zenless Zone Zero now has an official website, and a curious digital clock is counting down until May 13.
The curious website shows a retro TV, with dials that can be manipulated by clicking. By doing so, one of two videos will begin playing. The first is mostly static with some difficult-to-see images scattered throughout while a voice talks about ‘Doomsday.’
“In short, we’re being reborn…and you’re involved,” the strange voice says.
The second video shows a news broadcast accompanied by a statement from a reporter. “A sub-Hollow has suddenly appeared on the Janice quarter’s August streets some 30 minutes ago. Public security has established a level two control zone, and is currently evacuating residents,” it says clearly.
It’s unclear exactly what the game will entail. So far, it has been described as a “brand-new AAA open-world action-adventure game featuring shooting-based gameplay within a living, breathing paranormal world.”
In November 2021, miHoYo revealed that it would be opening its first North American office in Montreal. In February, the company announced the HoYoVerse brand, which it uses in all operations outside of China.
Last week, a report from Sensor Tower revealed that Genshin Impact had surpassed $3 billion in global lifetime player spending across Google Play and the App Store since its launch on September 28, 2020. The game has averaged revenue of $1 billion every six months. In terms of spending, China ranked first, generating 30.7% of sales. Japan was second at 23.7% and the United States came in third, accounting for 19.7% of consumer revenue.
More information about Zenless Zone Zero will be revealed on May 13, 2022. No release window for the game has been revealed.
