Dying Light 2 Could Be Getting Community Created Content

May 3, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

One thing that helps to extend the longevity of open-world games is having the option to add player and community-created content to them. In an interview with The Loadout recently, that’s exactly what Dying Light 2 developers Techland have been thinking about.

There’s certainly a lot going on behind the scenes with the Dying Light franchise, as only yesterday Techland announced they’d be providing another update for the original game’s DLC mode Hellraid. Dying Light 2: Stay Human was only released back in February, but it seems that the developers are already considering ways to increase the game’s potential playability and longevity.

In conversation with The Loadout, Dying Light 2′s lead designer Tymon Smektala has expressed openness towards the idea of implementing a system for adding community-created content and player creation tools.

This is one of the directions we are looking at. That is our direction of thinking. We want to invite the community more into creating, making, or tweaking the content we already have in the game.

The interview explains that there was no specific timeframe provided for when exactly players might expect to see these tools put in place. However, Smektala is reported to have explained further that for at least the first year or two of the game, potential experiences will be tested out with the community through different types of DLC. Techland will apparently “try different types of [experiences] to make sure everyone finds something for themselves,” according to Smektala.

It is still early days for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, but it’s interesting to see that the developers are already considering ways to enhance its player base’s experiences and expectations in the longer term. It’s unlikely that we’ll see the addition of community-creation tools any time soon, but for those who love a bit of game modding and getting creative, it seems that the option to add a content creation kit of some sort could certainly be on the cards at some point.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human is available now on Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
