Strikes in Destiny: The Taken King Will Change on Multiple Playthroughs

August 26, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Add a little variety to those Strikes.

Strikes in Destiny: The Taken King, including all previous Strikes, will contain changing variables, making multiple playthroughs slightly different each time you step back in.

Today, Bungie showed off one of the new Strikes from The Taken King called “Shield Brothers.” In it, you and your fellow Guardians are attempting to stop the Cabal from detonating the Dreadnaught’s core, which would destroy the ship and the Guardians.

“Strikes: they’re an important part of Destiny. We know players are going to run them time and time again, so we want to make that experience less static,” Destiny design lead James Tsai said during today’s livestream. “And this room they are coming up into is one of the rooms that has a variable encounter and all the strikes now have several combat setups where you come into a room and they might be fighting Cabal this time, they be fighting [new enemy race] Taken another time and they’ll hear different dialogue. Enemies will spawn from different locations. So, every Strike’s going to be a slightly different experience and you’ll play the same one a couple times and get a different encounter.”

Earlier in the livestream, Bungie took time to go into detail about the new subclasses for each of the game’s three main classes, revealing some previously unknown abilities and perks.

Check out archived video from today’s livestream where you can also hear the Ghost’s new voice, courtesy of Nolan North. It was also revealed today that Lance Reddick (Fringe, The Wire) will be reprising his role as Commander Zavala in The Taken King.
