Frictional Games has announced that the release of its upcoming horror game SOMA draws near.
Posting on Facebook, the studio said that this week will be the last one before the game goes into "Content Lock" stage, at which point no non-trivial content can be added to the game. All development efforts will be focused on bug fixing, tweaking, and optimization.
"Having this kind of lock is vital as things that might seem really simple additions could have ramifications that cause all sort of unforeseen consequences. In the final weeks leading up to release, you want to make sure that you only fix issues and not cause new ones," they wrote.
As a result of the push towards content lock, the studio admits that work has been "extra grueling" for the developers over the past few weeks, because every developer wants to add their final content into the game before the studio reaches the point where this becomes impossible.
"Things are looking really good though, and we should basically have every single bit of content in the game by now. This means that next week will act more as a buffer zone in case something unexpected shows up, instead of a frantic race against time."
Frictional says that the game is "prety much done content-wise" but that they still have more to do, which includes preparing PR for the game.
The game has been in development for five long years and will be released a month from now.
