Come Sept. 15 when Destiny: The Taken King is released, Crucible and Vanguard marks will be combined into a new currency called Legendary marks, Bungie revealed in a Twitch stream today.
Currently, Crucible marks are earned by playing in Destiny’s player-versus-player (PvP) game modes, A.K.A. The Crucible. Conversely, Vanguard marks are earned by playing the game’s player-versus-environment (PvE) content, particularly the Vanguard Strike playlist. Both currencies had a weekly attainable maximum of 100 each with the ability to carry 200 maximum of each currency at a given time. With The Taken King, the new Legendary marks will not have a weekly attainable maximum, but will still hold the maximum carrying capacity of 200 at a time.
Since Crucible and Vanguard marks will be replaced by this new currency, it stands to reason that things that were previously purchased by Crucible marks or Vanguard marks (such as armor and weapons) will both be purchasable by the new Legendary marks.
Any Crucible or Vanguard marks your character is carrying when The Taken King goes live will be converted to Commendations, which can be exchanged for reputation gains. Earning reputation will grant players a Reward Package from that reputation’s representative. Additionally, breaking down a legendary (purple) weapon will also give you Legendary marks.
During the livestream today, Bungie further discussed how the Light system will be changing and how that will affect your character’s overall level.
