Elden Ring was one of MANY epic video game titles that were not just anticipated this year, but, delivered on virtually every level possible. This grand open-world title mixed with fun combat, good crafting and a detailed landscape have made players forgo the typical style (for From Software titles) of just blazing through the story to see all that the world has to offer. As a result of that, the play times for this game have been known to be very, VERY high. And that’s totally fine. But then, someone went and beat the game in 9 minutes. For real.
His name is Distortion2, and he’s a YouTuber who went and beat the game (in terms of reaching the credits to be clear) in just 8 minutes and 52 seconds. That’s…honestly quite impressive. But you might be wondering, “How is that possible when just going somewhere can take minutes on end?”
The answer to that is…exploits. His speedrun, known as an Any% means that he could beat the game by not completing everything in it, but rather by just reaching the end credits. To that end, he used a variety of glitches to literally “Zip” around the map s that he could get a fast ending time.
It’s honestly quite brilliant, and proof that gamers know how exactly to manipulate a game for their own devices if it means getting things done. The irony though is that between Distortion2 and other runners they’re going to try and beat this time and see how fast things can really go.
But for those out there who aren’t in the speedrun crowd, we do recommend that you just go and enjoy Elden Ring as a whole. It really is a wonderfully crafted title with a lot to do, and we’d bet that many of you haven’t beaten it as of yet.
