Funcom, the studio behind Age of Conan, The Secret World, and Lego Minifigures Online is in dire straits. Following disappointing sales of their latest game on the PC, the company is looking to sell.
Lego Minifigures Online originally launched last year as a free-to-play PC game, but it performed under expectations. The studio overhauled the game and re-released it this past June as a pay-to-play multiplatform title.
According to the company's investor relations page, sales on the iOS platform performed better as the game was featured in the Apple Store during its launch week, but because the price point of the game is lower, the additional sales aren't enough to compensate for its performance on the PC.
The company has appointed an investment bank to look into investing, acquiring, or merging with Funcom.
Other options include selling individual properties like games and code, or filing for bankruptcy as a last resort.
