There's a new game called 20XX currently in development at an indie studio called Batterystaple Games, and it hopes to serve as a spiritual successor to Capcom's beloved Mega Man X series of platformers.
The game is heavily inspired by the Mega Man X games and offers 2D graphics, procedurally generated levels with roguelike mechanics, and a two-player co-op mode in addition to single-player.
The developers of 20XX announced today that the beta build of the game will be launched on September 15 on Steam.
It's amusing to note that the game looks a lot better than Comcept's heavily Kickstarter-backed title Mighty No. 9, which recently announced a delay to early 2016.
Like MN9, 20XX was funded through Kickstarter and has been available on Steam Early Access for a few months now. Since then, it's seen a bunch of major updates and its developers appear to be in close communication with backers and fans interested in the game.
Even if MN9 turns out to be a disappointment, at least fans of the Mega Man games will have something else to play. Watch some footage below.
