Nintendo seems set to offer a Loot Crate like subscription service.
Their subscription will be called the N-Box, and they will offer toys, clothes, and other merchandise featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters, including Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon.
Loot Crate itself offered an amiibo themed box. However, given its limited scope the N-Box seems not intended to be a rival, so much as simply another revenue stream. Nintendo presumably has a host of merchandise licensees carrying over from Club Nintendo, and this is definitely a great way to keep those licensees and their products.
Of course, Nintendo could drive fans crazy, and choose to use N-Box as a way to offer amiibo, or for that matter, special edition and limited edition software and hardware. It remains to be seen how N-Box will be received, and if Nintendo will expand its scope in the future.
You will be able to buy each N-Box as it comes out, or pick up three, six, or twelve month subscriptions. This was reported by MCVUK, so there is a chance this is a Europe only service, at least for now.
