World of Warcraft’s Elwynn Forest and Westfall Recreated in Unreal Engine 4

July 21, 2015 by Stephen Daly

Blizzard’s seminal MMO has never looked so good.

YouTuber Daniel L has posted videos of the Elwynn Forest and Westfall regions of World of Warcraft, showing what they'd look like in Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4.

The scenes were created using textures from CGtextures.com and Unreal demos and you can check them both out below.

World of Warcraft maker Blizzard Entertainment recently announced that they're developing a new faction-switching Mercenary Mode, which aims to reduce waiting times for the game's player-versus-player battlegrounds. The new feature does not currently have a release date.

Back in May, Blizzard confirmed that World of Warcraft subscriptions have fallen to 7.1 million, down from 10 million in November following the release of the Warlords of Draenor expansion pack. World of Warcraft was first released back in 2004 and while a visual update – in Unreal Engine 4 or another engine – won't necessarily help pick up new players, it probably wouldn't hurt at this point.
