If you've paid any attention at all to recent drama in the games industry you'll know that some people insist that 30fps is all a video game needs to offer.
Not so, say the developers of Killer Instinct. Their upcoming game plays at 90fps. And it's for this reason that the motion in the game is so fluid on the Xbox One.
While players won't be able to see the game actually playing at 90fps due to the fact that the renderer only outputs at 60hz due to limitations with most displays, the game itself runs at a very high framerate.
Speaking at EVO 2015 this past weekend, Killer Instinct devs Iron GAlaxy explained that the reason they optimized the game to run at 90fps was to make it feel smooth and extremely responsive to players.
The game engine performs a "rollback" to 60fps during gameplay down from 90fps, while the controllers are still polled at a high framerate.
In addition to running at a high framerate, the game's developers have also announced that they increased its resolution from 720p to 900p.
