Fallout 4 isn’t even out yet, but fans are already preparing mods for it. The full modding support for PC was basically the go signal, and fans are running with it. Probably one of the best Fallout mods that players would want to bring back is the Real Time Settler (RTS) mod. That is, if Bethesda hadn’t already made it an official part of the game.
Player Run Settlements in Fallout 4 run pretty much the same as RTS. You can start building your settlement on pre-determined spots (RTS let you build almost anywhere) using base materials you’ve harvested from all the random stuff lying around in the wasteland. Build structures, decorations, and your own mini power grid, if you feel so compelled. Don’t forget to build a little house for Dogmeat, too.
Okay, so you can build a settlement. Why does this matter? You can grow your settlement, not just in terms of square footage, but also in terms of population size. If you have the basic necessities – food, clean water, shelter – you can recruit people to join you in your settlement. It’s an investment not just of resources, but into a tiny (or huge) community that’s your own. Stand your ground and protect your base against raiders – you know they’re out to get you, and we’re willing to bet you don’t want to go down without a fight.
Modders will probably have even more fun with this new(ish) feature, and it’d be pretty interesting to see some interaction with other established in-game factions. What do you think you’d do with this feature? Are you already planning your settlement’s layout? Keep in mind that mods won’t be limited to PC, so even console players can (eventually) get in on the fun. Fallout 4 comes out on November 10th for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
