It’s been just a few days since Horizon Forbidden West was released on PlayStation consoles, but sales data is already starting to roll in. The first set of data comes from the UK. Horizon Forbidden West has had a tremendous launch in the country. It is the second biggest launch in PS5 history for the UK. Only Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which launched with the console, has had a bigger launch. Remarkably, Horizon even managed to beat out FIFA 22 which is a juggernaut in the UK.
The sales data released thus far is only for physical sales. Digital sales data is released later and should give a clearer picture of just how successful Forbidden West had been so far. As reported earlier today, 68% of Horizon Forbidden West copies sold in the UK are the PS5 version. Forbidden West also finally knocked Pokémon Legends: Arceus off the number one spot in the UK for the first time since its launch.
Compared to other big launches of recent months, Horizon Forbidden West is faring well. According to journalist Chris Dring, Horizon beat the first week sales of Guardians of the Galaxy, Far Cry 6, and Battlefield 2042. The game has also already outsold Dying Light 2 and Forza Horizon 5’s total physical sales, despite those games being on sale for much longer.
Horizon Forbidden West’s launch has lagged behind Horizon Zero Dawn. Forbidden West sales are down 35% compared to the first game. Though the first game came out four years into the lifecycle of the PS4 when there were many more consoles in people’s hands. Forbidden West will likely continue to sell well throughout the PS5’s lifespan as supplies improve and people are able to get their hands on Sony’s new console. Horizon Zero Dawn recently hit the 20 million sales mark so that’s the lifetime number to beat for Forbidden West.
