Might and Magic AAA Title In Development At Ubisoft

February 14, 2022 by Dani Cook

The information was leaked via a job posting for Ubisoft Shanghai.

A recent job posting from Ubisoft has confirmed that the company is developing a Might and Magic AAA title. The developers behind Assassin’s Creed are in the process of filling the position of Senior Brand Manager for the upcoming game. According to the posting’s mission, “Ubisoft Shanghai is looking for a Senior Brand Manager to champion the brand marketing and product marketability of a new Might & Magic AAA game. Under the management of the Brand director, join an ambitious team and help reinvent one the biggest Fantasy franchise in video game history.”

For those unfamiliar, Might and Magic is a series of RPGs that date back to 1986 when Might and Magic Book One: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum was released. Originally developed by New World Computing, Ubisoft bought the rights to the franchise in 2003 for a reported $1.3 million. The French game developers then rebooted the series with the releases of Heroes of Might and Magic V and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Neither of which are connected to previous Might and Magic games. A mobile game titled Might and Magic: Elemental Guardians has also been released by the company.

Might and Magic games typically take place in a medieval fantasy setting, with some sections offering players science fiction references. Players are able to control a party of playable characters, similar to games such as Dragon Quest Heroes. These different characters often have varying classes and abilities. While early games in the franchise have an interface similar to the game Bard’s Tale, later installments introduced a 3D environment. The games are often combat-intensive and have players take on multiple groups of creatures at once.

The latest game in the Might and Magic main series was Might & Magic X: Legacy in 2014 which is available on PC. As fans have gone without a new title based on the franchise for several years, it will be interesting to see what Ubisoft has in mind for the next Might and Magic game.
