So it was not that long ago that Fallout Shelter’s debut outgrossed Candy Crush Saga immediately upon release. How well is the game doing today?
Based on data from mobile gaming analyst ThinkGaming, Fallout Shelter is the top free app on iPhone, and is ranked number 6 in revenue. ThinkGaming also estimates revenue of over $ 250,000 and over 260,000 installs every day.
For comparison’s sake, ThinkGaming data has Candy Crush Saga at top 12 in free apps and ranked number 3 in revenue. Candy Crush Saga is also estimated to be making nearly a million in revenue every day, but having only a little less than 100,000 players installing it.
So, as a quick review, Candy Crush Saga can boast making more money again, but they seem to be making it mostly off a bigger captive user base they accumulated through the years. Fallout Shelter is a comparatively more immediate and overall more impressive success, with a rapid increase in users and the potential for even more income as that userbase keeps rising.

And Bethesda has definitely taken notice, with new job openings for their mobile division. They are looking for experienced iOS and Android devs, with experience in tools like Objective C, Unity, Open GL and others. These are highly flexible tools that imply Bethesda could bring Fallout Shelter to desktop PCs, and even consoles and dedicated gaming portables, if they wanted to.
