PlayStation Gamers Can Play Online For Free This Weekend

February 10, 2022 by Matt Cook

What will you play this weekend?

This weekend PlayStation gamers will be able to play online for free. That means a PlayStation Plus membership will not be required for any multiplayer games. The free weekend for multiplayer games is available for all gamers on PS4 and PS5 across all games. The free weekend will take place from February 12 to February 14. The start and end times for the free weekend are the same across all regions. Multiplayer will be free from 12:01 am on February 12 and end at 11:59 pm on February 14 no matter where in the world players are located.

Multiplayer isn’t the only thing that’s free this weekend. Ubisoft’s Riders Republic is having its first free weekend as well. Riders Republic’s free weekend is taking place from February 10 until February 14 and the game is available to pre-load for PlayStation gamers right now. Check out all of the info on Riders Republic’s free weekend, including the start and end times for each region, here.

PlayStation Plus has been required for multiplayer on PlayStation consoles since the launch of the PS4. Although PlayStation Plus began on the PS3, Sony made a commitment at the start of that console’s lifespan that it would never charge for multiplayer on the PS3. Something that remains true to this day since PlayStation Plus is not required for multiplayer on the PS3 even in 2022.

Recently, there have been rumors that Sony is looking to shake up its subscription offerings. The company is reported to be looking into a Game Pass-like service to compete with Xbox. Game Pass has become incredibly popular over the last few years and is a major selling point for Xbox consoles. If the rumors are true, it looks like Sony will be combining PlayStation Plus with PlayStation Now, adding multiple subscription tiers and creating one unified service.
