This year was definitely a big step up in terms of Kingdom Hearts 3 news. Square Enix had us believing for a short while that they weren’t going to be showing it at all during E3, then they sprung the trailer on us, and it was glorious.
Tetsuya Nomura has also been very open about the project, granting several interviews after the Square Enix E3 press conference. We’re seeing more KH3 news than ever before. In this video from TheGamersJoint, they speculate on the possibility of getting Kingdom Hearts 3 sooner than most fans are expecting.
On two separate occasions, Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed the following: Two different teams are working on Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy VII remake, and that KH3 is at a relatively advanced stage; and the gameplay and world assignments are already set, what they’re doing at this point is nitpicking and pouring attention into details. That means all the new stuff has already been decided on. Could Q4 2016 or Q1 2017 be a possible release window?
Speaking of new things, the trailer did show Sora in his Kingdom Hearts 2 outfit, then the second half had him in his KH3 outfit. This left some fans confused, but does open up the possibility that we’ll be starting the game with Sora in his KH2 outfit and, at some point, transition into his KH3 outfit. There doesn’t seem to be any other logical reason for them to display Sora’s old outfit in the trailer otherwise.
Sora’s KH2 outfit could be his most iconic, but the KH3 version is giving it some good competition. It seems that Tetsuya Nomura had to be pushed by his staff to change the outfit, and the result was a mix of the KH2 and Dream Drop Distance outfit. Nomura explained that the new outfit was meant to reflect Sora’s new battle style, hence the sleeker, sportier look. We’re aware that in KH3 there will be more action, Sora’s going to have some parkour moves, and a baggy outfit would just slow him down. Sora’s also got a new haircut, not as bushy as his KH2 hair. Maybe it’ll be more aerodynamic?
Can you tell that we’re excited for Kingdom Hearts 3? Watching the trailer at E3 felt like coming home, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re looking forward to exploring some new worlds. Whenever it's coming out, it's expected to be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
