Fans are looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Everyone was treated to a demo of the game’s single-player campaign at the E3 press conference, but we’re sure that players are also interested in multiplayer. Activision Games Blog brought in Dan Bunting, the game director for multiplayer in Black Ops 3, to discuss the new movement system. Bunting enumerates a couple of new mechanics that are sure to make a difference in the player’s game experience.
All players will have Unlimited Sprint now, no longer necessitating the Extreme Conditioning Perk. “This will allow players to maintain momentum as they traverse the environment,” said Bunting. That means no more getting thrown off because you could only do a 3-second sprint, slowing down is now a conscious decision.
“Everything is designed to be chained together,” according to Bunting. The Power Slide helps players get a little extra distance, and can be done as a follow-up to a sprint. Players can optimize the Power Slide when they’ve got a good deal of Thrust in their meter for a nice, long slide.
Another thing that Bunting discusses is the Wall Run, a mechanic that they designed deliberately into the maps as pathways. You don’t have to Wall Run your way through the entire map, but if you want to get from one point to another really fast, you could consider risking getting shot during a Wall Run. It’s a shortcut put in place to feed the thrill that players get while playing.
Swimming was also mentioned. It’s meant to simulate a different combat feel underwater, but comes with a tradeoff: things will work a little differently. The pace of combat slows down, and weapons won’t work the same way. The underwater objective points can be reached in a variety of ways, which opens up the possibility for players to get creative with reaching the objectives.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 comes out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 6, 2015. PS4 players will get the DLC ahead of everyone else.
