“A new player has entered the game.”
YouTube plays host to a lot of media that gamers appreciate: trailers, official gameplay footage, and Let’s Plays, among many others. Some YouTube Creators have massive followings, for myriad reasons like reviews of independent games, and even sitcom-like series on The Sims. YouTube knows that, and they’re acknowledging the community.
Enter YouTube Gaming. On the web or using your smartphone, you’ll be able to keep track of the games you like and the community you’re part of. A new Live system with improved chat latency and moderation will be put in place, so you can focus on just having a good time with your favorite YouTube Creators.
You can view content in three ways: Games, Feeds, and Channels. The My Games feature lets you tell the app what you’re into, so you can get relevant recommendations for who or what to watch next.
Here's what the official announcement by YouTube Product Manager Alan Joyce reads: "YouTube Gaming is built to be all about your favorite games and gamers, with more videos than anywhere else. From "Asteroids" to "Zelda," more than 25,000 games will each have their own page, a single place for all the best videos and live streams about that title. You’ll also find channels from a wide array of game publishers and YouTube creators.
"Keeping up with these games and channels is now super easy, too. Add a game to your collection for quick access whenever you want to check up on the latest videos. Subscribe to a channel, and you'll get a notification as soon as they start a live stream. Uncover new favorites with recommendations based on the games and channels you love."
The YouTube Gaming app is set to launch in Summer 2015 and will be available on the web and for Android and iOS. You can sign up here to be notified when it goes live.
