Deep End Games’ Perception is a first-person horror narrative game where you play Cassie, a blind woman who can “see” using echo-location. Her dreams have been haunted by the abandoned estate at Echo Bluff, and she goes there to find out why. What she encounters is worse than her nightmares.
The Perception Kickstarter has just reached a little over $100,000 and Deep End has released a new “found footage” trailer. It follows a journalism student named Leigh Jennings as she tries to find out more about Echo Bluff. The locals didn’t want anything to do with it, and warned her about the place. Determined to find out why people avoid it and sometimes refuse to discuss it at all, Leigh spends the night at the abandoned estate.
None of Leigh’s colleagues wanted to stay with her. Most of the evening goes by relatively quietly, save for the occasional creaking common to old houses. Past midnight, it appears that Leigh is ready to leave out of boredom, but she hears something and immediately turns the camera around. We are shown a creature – perhaps the house’s Presence? – before the footage is cut. Her camera is found at a beach two miles away, but Leigh has not been heard from since.
The Kickstarter campaign’s minimum funding goal is $150,000 and they’ve got about two weeks left. The plan is to bring it to PC by 2016, but as with many campaigns, there are also stretch goals. A number of these goals are meant to bring the game to other platforms, such as Mac and Linux ($175,000). Virtual reality support is also being considered ($350,000), but one of the biggest stretch goals appears to be bringing this game to PlayStation 4, which they will do if they can raise $375,000 for this project.
