Oculus will be launching a digital distribution service for the Oculus Rift, called Oculus Home, the virtual reality company announced Thursday at its pre-E3 press conference.
Oculus Home will be the one-stop-shop, quite literally, for all of your Oculus Rift needs. Through Home, users of the virtual reality headset will be able to, while wearing the headset, shop for games for the Rift, browse virtual spaces for each of the games before making a purchasing decision, see what friends are up to, and more. While wearing the Rift is possible when using Home, it is not required. A 2D interface is also being designed, should you wish to browse games or interact with friends without the use of the peripheral.
During the press conference, Oculus also made some other major announcements, such an exclusive new game from Insomniac Games, a partnership with Microsoft, and more. Stay tuned to Gameranx, especially during E3 next week, as Oculus is expected to be there, showing off everything they announced at their press conference.
