At Oculus’ pre-E3 event today, CEO and founder of Insomniac Games Ted Price announced Edge of Nowhere, a new game from the studio, developed from day one for virtual reality, exclusively on Oculus Rift.
In a short clip shown at the event, viewers could see a female avatar jumping and climbing different obstacles in a snowy, mountainous setting. The game appears to be a third-person action-adventure game, with VR adding a new way of experiencing this classic style of gameplay.
"You’re surrounded on all sides by the unexpected, and nothing is as it seems," Price said of the game.
While Insomniac Games has proven its worth as a developer with a long history of games they have developed, developing for the Oculus Rift has brought new challenges to the team.
"It's been educational," Price said, "and it's been challenging. But it's also been thrilling."
Insomniac Games is best known for its work on the Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance series for PlayStation platforms, as well as last year’s Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive. In addition to Edge of Nowhere, the studio is also currently working on a new Ratchet & Clank game for the PS4.
